SUMMARY:Lighthouses and the Civil War - Josh Liller
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Past with Historian Josh Liller!\nAn Enlightening History Presentation:\nLighthouses and the Civil War\nThe quantity and quality of American lighthouses increased substantially in the decade before the Civil War\, thanks in no small part to Army and Navy officers who would find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. After Fort Sumter\, the Confederate government ordered all lighthouses under their control to be extinguished. Over the course of the war\, many were damaged or destroyed – mostly deliberate sabotage but in some cases simply being caught in the crossfire. For the Lighthouse Service\, the Reconstruction Era was literal: repairing or replacing those many wartime casualties. Historian Josh Liller explores the triumph and tragedy of an often overlooked side of the Civil War Era. Register for the Zoom \nEvent Details: \n\nDate: Wednesday\, August 7\, 2024\nTime: 8:30pm\nLocation: Zoom Register Now\n\n
